Getting Involved: Helping Youth Succeed
This PowerPoint program has been designed to assist Extension educators in rcruiting volunteers. Slides are included in the program to assist agents in making the following points:

  1. Local Extension programming in youth development supports national Cooperative Extension and 4-H youth development goals
  2. Adults are an important support base for any youth development program.
  3. Communities benefit when adults work with youth to offer programming.
  4. Cooperative Extension's program results in positive impacts on individuals, families, and communities.
  5. The national goals of national organizations (Kiwanis, Lions, Rotary, RSVP, PTA) can e linked to the goals established for Cooperative Extension's youth program.

Of course the slide show needs to be customized for the audience and the program area but the basics are there. According to results from a 1999 Independent Sector survey, 49.1% of people say they have been asked to volunteer. When asked, 89.5% actually say yes! Go for it!
