The YET staff has faced some issues related to youth development within the after-school setting. From these issues the YET staff has developed some resource materials that may be helpful for you with your program. These resources have been developed using research based information and techniques. Feel free to share this information with others.

YET Web site Development: (7.2 MB PDF)
The YET Web site Development curriculum uses Microsoft FrontPage 2003 to teach members to create basic web sites.

YET GPS/Navigation: (96k PDF)
The YET GPS/Navigation curriculum is based on Garmin GPSmap 76S units as well as the Brunton Navigation Curriculum CD.

YET Compass PowerPoint: (1.4MB PowerPoint)
This PowerPoint is used with the compass section of the YET GPS/Navigation Curriculum.

YET GPS PowerPoint: (3.4MB PowerPoint)
This PowerPoint is used with the GPS section of the YET GPS/Navigation Curriculum.

YET Robotics: (130K PDF)
The YET Robotics curriculum uses LEGO® MINDSTORMS® robotics kits as well as "The Robotics Educator" resource from the Robotics Academy, Carnegie Mellon University.

YET GIS: (488K PDF)
The YET GIS curriculum uses the GIS 4-H Project Books developed by the Penn State Land Analysis Lab.

Youth Development Resources:

2006, March - Say Y.E.S. to Youth: Youth Engagement Strategies: (16 MB PDF)
Within communities across the country a growing movement exists to engage young people on community teams. This session is designed to provide participants with the tools and knowledge base to include young people as team members on community teams. Specifically, participants will learn about the Say Y.E.S. to Youth resource packet that includes research-based information and experiential activities related to youth engagement.

2005, March - Behavioral Issues Toolkit: (389k PDF)
This toolkit was developed to help YET staff deal with youth that bring behavioral issues with them to club meetings. The toolkit has strategies for prevention and intervention of youth with problem behaviors.

Decision Wheel: (354k PDF)
This PDF contains the Decision Wheel template used for the decision wheel activity described in the Behavioral Issues Toolkit appendix 5.

2004, December - Parent Involvement Plan: (144k PDF)
Similar to research on parent and family involvement in schools, research provides evidence that parent and family involvement in after-school programs increases students' achievement and success. Here are just a few of the research findings that link parent involvement to a child's success in- and out-of-school.

2004, October - Pennsylvania After-school SNACKS Program: (58k PDF)
The After School SNACKS program provide reimbursements designed to encourage the use of nutritional snacks for children and youth (under age 18) participating in after school programs. This program is open to all after-school programs throughout Pennsylvania.

Organization Change Survey 2004:

This Organizational Change Survey was designed to measure the impact of CYFAR on a state Extension system's programming for at-risk children, youth, and families. Penn State Cooperative Extension has completed the survey two previous times as required by CYFAR funding in 1998 and 2001. In April 2004, 164 of 223 eligible respondents (74%) completed this survey.
